Peacefully Digital!

Several years have gone, the world has been connected via smartphones, tablets, personal computers, laptops etc. Be a businessperson, teacher, housewife, student etc, everyone is linked with the screens. At first, when they were brought to the market, they were not a necessity, they were only meant for communication purposes, technical purposes or entertainment etc. But with the passage of time specially in the last few years these inventions have become a necessity. When you are going to bed or getting up from sleep, you check cell phone. The life isn’t easy since everything has gone online these days. Though it offered a lot of ease in many areas like on a click you can manage a lot of things but at the same time, quality of life has been compromised. Let’s discuss few of them and then we'll move to the bad effects on health and how can we improve our health and quality of life.

So how this prolonged screen exposure affects the quality of life?

It makes us isolated socially. We are just on social media and ignore our natural surrounding, our family and friends.

Life has become so inactive. We don’t participate in healthy activities that are very much important for maintaining health like easy exercises, walking, proper eating, book reading, spending quality time with the family.

Our hands are burdened for having smartphones in them all the time.

Let’s see some important health hazards that are linked with these smart gadgets.

At first our eyes are affected due to continuous screen exposure. Beside this putting earphones continuously affects our ears badly. Our minds have gotten exhausted that’s also affecting every corner of life.

I will try to highlight few symptoms that are caused due to long screen exposures.

  • Stress
  • Puffiness of eyes
  • Eyesight problems
  • Aggressiveness (specially in gamers)
  • Insomnia
  • Confusion
  • Losing focus
  • Depression
  • Absent mindedness
  • Poor health
  • Weight gain
  • Feeling lethargic
  • Addiction
  • Neck pain, stiffness
  • Eye dryness
  • Headache

What to do about it?

If you are a student, teacher, business person, IT personnel, follow the following cool tips.

  • First thing first is to fix a time how much screen exposure should it be. Like for instance, if you are a student attending online classes. Just stick to that particular schedule as you follow that of your school. After that keep the mobile away from you.
  • Relax your eyes. Dryness of eyes can be avoided by certain eye drops, you can also apply thin slices of cucumber on your eyes.
  • Wash your eyes with cold water if they are puffed.
  • Use computer glasses to avoid eyesight issues.
  • Reduce the use of earphones because it results in the microbial growth. Play via speakers instead.
  • Eat healthy meal and avoid junk food.
  • Take proper sleep. Give your body a little rest from all the hustle and bustle of electronic life.
  • Do exercise. Socialize yourself. See your friends and family.
  • If pain is worsening, you may take OTC medicines. NSAIDs are good to manage such pain.
  • Be the part of healthy physical and mental activities. Read good books, play indoor games because this is hard time on everyone of us as we are combating a pandemic. Solve puzzles. Spend time with family and friends.
  • And last but not the least, don’t carry the cell phone all the time with you.

Important settings in mobile phones

  • Screen brightness should be kept at minimum when you are indoors.
  • Volume should be low when you are using hands free.
  • Put the mobile on flight mode while sleeping.

I hope, if we use these electronic devices wisely, we can live and enjoy a digital life in a safe zone.

Follow and live this digital life peacefully.

Peace to everyone!
