Learning objectives in lesson planning serve as clear statements that describe what learners will be able to accomplish by the end of a lesson . They are crucial components of effective lesson planning. Teachers can make learning objectives SMART by following these guidelines: 1. Specific : Clearly define what students are expected to learn. Avoid vague language and ensure the objective is precise and focused. 2. Measurable : Include criteria that allow for assessment of whether students have achieved the objective. This could involve quantifiable measures like scores, percentages, or observable behaviors. 3. Achievable : Ensure that the objective is realistic and attainable within the given context of time, resources, and students' capabilities. 4. Relevant : Connect the objective to the broader goals of the curriculum and ensure its importance and relevance to students' learning needs and interests. 5. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

With the start of winter, a lot of viral diseases also begin. They usually affect the most vulnerable population who have low immunity, mostly they are seniors or juniors. Here we'll see one of the most common viral diseases which is Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

What is RSV?
It is characterised by asthma like symptoms such as troubled breathing, wheezing while breathing, coughing etc.

So how does it spread?

It’s contagious and can be transmitted through air-borne droplets of the infected person.

Common symptoms

It starts with flu-like symptoms, such as
  • Mild fever
  • Runny nose
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Bronchiolitis
  • Congestion
  • Pain in the chest
  • Restlessness
  • Loss of appetite
How is it diagnosed?

As its symptoms are like that of flu hence, mouth swab is taken to detect the presence of the virus.

Management

Normally , it can be managed with
  • Bronchodilators like albuterol, epinephrine etc
  • Antiviral medicine such as Ribavarin
  • Palivizumab injection (in high risk children who are younger than 2 years) Beside this
  • In order to make up the water and electrolyte imbalance IV fluids can be administered
  • Mechanical ventilation is provided to the patient if he has severe infection in order to make up the oxygen deficiency
  • Tube feeding is also provided to the child who is unable to feed himself (unable to swallow or drink)
Prevention

It’s important to take every precautionary measure as much as possible.
  • Practise all the good hygiene rules
  • Wash your hands often
  • Keep the infected person away from healthy ones
  • Wear mask if needed
An important question might be there in your mind that how will we differentiate between  the current COVID-19 and RSV because both of them have many symptoms in common. So here is a comparison chart which can help you to know the varying symptoms between these two viral infections.

Remember

In order to minimize the spread of any type of viral infection, we must keep distance and follow all the necessary precautionary measures which can save the people around us.

Take care!
